FAQ
Frequently asked questions
Yes, absolutely!
I'm always happy to book people in for a chat to make sure that we're on the same page with what you're looking for and to make sure that you have the opportunity to ask any questions before you decide to commit.
Consultations are generally anywhere between 15-45 minutes and are held in person at the studio. Appointments are required, so please reach out if you'd like to arrange a time to chat!
I would say my preferred style of work would be somewhere in the realm of neo-traditional/illustrative. I like to incorporate a mix of realistic details and flowy ornamental and art-nouveau inspired elements.
I like working in both black and grey and colour. I've always been happy to do a variety of tattoo styles, and most times I do my best to try to accommodate style preferences when I can.
Absolutely!
I have an entire page with all of my flash pieces posted on there for you to look through that you can find here.(https://www.instagram.com/melizaupforgrabs)
Info about specific designs (like the minimum or suggested size and whether it's available to be tattooed in colour or black and grey) are in the captions.
TL;DR:
Minimum charge: $150 plus tax
Hourly rate: $175 plus tax
Flat rates: For smaller, single session tattoos, vary by the piece but will be priced in advance.
---
My minimum charge is 150 plus tax. That's the baseline needed to cover the cost of both the time and materials required for me to prepare for any given appointment.
For smaller pieces that are done in one sitting, usually a flat rate or ball park estimate is given in advance. For example, I might estimate between $200-$250 plus tax, and the final total won't be any more than the high end of that price (unless the size, placement or details of the design change drastically from what was originally discussed).
Larger or multi-session pieces are generally charged at an hourly rate of 175 plus tax.
Usually, I will give estimates as a window of time instead of dollar value (For example, between 8-10 hours) The larger the project, the harder it will be to pin down the exact timing.
I do my best to be fair and transparent in my pricing. When charging hourly, I charge only for what I consider honest hours worked. So generally time spent drawing, setting up or reasonable breaks are not "on the clock". This allows both myself and my clients to be able to work through the tattoo at a comfortable pace.
Lastly, if you have strict budget constraints for any reason, please let me know what kind of budget you are working with, and I will do my best to see what we can do to modify the design to keep within that budget. It might not always be possible, but I'm always open to discuss!
In order to book an appointment, I'll need the following info
Your information (name, contact, preferred pronouns)
Description of your idea
Reference pictures (if you have them)
Preferred size
Preferred placement
Your availability for appointments
Budget (if you have one)
And any additional information that you might think is relevant
I have a contact form that you can fill out, or you can send me an email with the information provided as well.
A deposit will be required upon booking, so please be prepared to pay the deposit when reaching out to make sure that you are able to secure your appointment time.
As a general rule, I do not send designs out before the appointment.
I have found that any changes are much easier to discuss and change in person as opposed to sending information back and forth over email/messages.
Because of this, I will always book additional time at the beginning of any session where I am starting a new piece to give you time to make any changes and adjustments to the design.
Do not be afraid to be picky with your design, or the placement of it. You won't hurt my feelings: it's my job to make sure you're happy with the tattoo and we won't start until you're 100% happy with it.
As long as the changes that you're looking to make are within the scope of what was discussed originally, there should be plenty of time to make changes to your design.
However, if you show up looking for something completely different and I do not have time to redraw this new idea, you will be rebooked at the loss of your deposit.

If it is the case that you're getting a large scale piece that needs to be custom fit (full sleeves, back pieces, etc) and I know that I will need more time to draw any changes, I will book a consultation for a week before your scheduled appointment so that you can come in, see the design and size it up before finalizing it.
This can also be offered with other projects, even if they aren't large scale, for a small fee. So if you're anxious about not seeing the drawing before hand, let me know and I'll do what I can to help accommodate!
Yes! A deposit is required to book any tattoo appointment.
The deposit goes toward the final cost of your tattoo after it's completed, so it's not an additional fee, just an advanced payment.
Generally the deposit is $100 per person or per session booked.
Deposits are non-refundable and are kept on file for 6 months at most, so please make sure you are certain about your idea, and that you are physically and financially prepared for the tattoo before you commit.
If you rebook with more than 48 hours notice, your deposit will get carried over to your next appointment.
You can rebook your appointment two times, with adequate notice.
If you reschedule more than twice, or if you give less than 48 hours notice, you can still absolutely rebook. However, your deposit will be lost an another will need to be paid before rebooking.
I try to be as reasonable as I can with these policies. As long as you're upfront and keep up communication, I will try to be flexible and make accommodations when I can!
